F18 Carrier Landing

Land a jet on a floating runway in this simple yet complete flying simulator

F18 Carrier Landing has most of what it is in the name and is a fairly simple game. It makes sense, then, that game first found its home on mobile devices. Although there isn't just landing on carriers, and there are other jets available, the most challenging aspects of F18 carrier Landing is landing on the 150 meter, rolling deck of a moving aircraft carrier in a variety of different environmental conditions.

Game Play

Although this game was created for mobile devices originally (IOS and Android) the game is a well defined flight simulator. As with most mobile games, it's gone through a number of updates to expand it's content and tighten up controls. Land on carriers and normal landing strips in different weather conditions and daylight settings. Fly, preform tricks and even coordinate in flight fueling, one of the trickiest things that a jet pilot can preform. Feel free to ply in free mode, letting you create your own scenarios to fly through, or else fly through the 2 complete scenarios that are available out of box. Controls are good, letting you maneuver your jet. The F18 Hornet is the plane that ships with the game, however there is are a number of other jets that can be purchased including the Grumman A-6 Intruder, F14 Super Tomcat and McDonnell Douglas F4E Phantom II. For fighter enthusiasts, the different selections are a nice variety and add depth to the game.

Presentation

F18 Carrier Landing looks pretty good. There are 3D views inside the cockpit, outside the cockpit and a replay mode that allows players to see their run as an observer. Multiple camera angles and pans can let them inspect their run and make any adjustments necessary to improve their skills. Sound is appropriate, although there isn't much beyond the roar of the jet engines and some voiced instruction. Since there isn't any dog fighting there isn't much in the way of explosions and special effects, but the different weather conditions and differences between day and night are well done and add considerable challenge to the game.
